I love seeing Tim Ferriss (Author of the Four Hour Workweek) using his Micro-Celebrity for a great cause!  Help him out with his goal…and help schools at the same time!

A Micro Celebrity Experiment

7 Levels Of Celebrity, Examples, Understanding Celebrity No Comments »

I’ve read numerous blog posts, tweets and articles about becoming “Internet Famous”…or as I prefer to call it- becoming a Micro Celebrity. In fact, Guy Kawasaki, wrote this post: Looking for Mr. Goodtweet: How to Pick Up Followers on Twitter which caused the interwebs to start buzzing about the validity, ethics, etc. of the suggestions. Allan Branch definitely didn’t like the suggestions and neither did Jon Dale.

[Added 2:30pm 11/14/08- I must add Jason Tennier to this list- as he, Guy, Allan and Jon are partly the reason I decided to try this experiment in the first place. Here is Jason's blog post What Just Happened To Twitter?]

I don’t care about right or wrong…good or bad…ethical or unethical in my research into the 7 Levels of Celebrity, Micro Celebrities and other Celebrity Groups. I’m just looking for the actions (sometimes inactions) or steps people take to achieve different levels of celebrity, different levels of fame and move around on the Celebrity Scale.

So I’ve decided to conduct a Micro Celebrity experiment using three of Guy’s suggestions (Tip #2 “send @ messages to the smores”; Tip #4 “follow everyone who follows you”; and Tip #10 “ask people to follow you”) as well a combination of tips from other articles about what to do to get noticed on Twitter and other social media sites.

My alter-ego now has a Twitter account HERE and will @ message the Top “smores” (according to TwitterCounter.com’s Top 100 list) asking them to help me become a Micro Celebrity.

I will continue to do this (I’m sure people will get annoyed, block me and wouldn’t be surprised if they even sick the “Twithorities” on me at some point) and follow everyone who follows me.  I will also respond to all DM messages in case people are trying to figure out what I’m doing and why (I will simply send them a link to this post).  I will also follow the top 5 people on the TwitterCounter.com list and see what happens from there.

It should be interesting to see what, if anything, comes out of this experiment.  I encourage your comments (yes- even the negative ones) about this too.

Wired.com’s Celebrity Meter

Examples No Comments »

As an avid reader of WIRED- I am dismayed that it took me this long to find their online Celebrity Meter.  A funny and unique idea to measure your current level of internet celebrity/fame (an algorithm based on the number of links you have) in number form!

Just in case you’re wondering…I did not get a high score- but I haven’t really pushed to expand my internet celebrity just yet. Waiting to get closer to finishing the 7 Levels of Celebrity book first! (Chris Anderson didn’t really start pushing his LONG TAIL blog until after he got the book deal.)

Micro vs Mini Celebrity

Tabitha Grace Smith brings us an interesting POV on the differences of Micro Celebrity and Mini Celebrity in this post on the Social Media Junkie Blog.

The 7 Levels of Celebrity expands on each of these two concepts…but adds several other levels to the mix.

Celebrity Realization…

7 Levels Of Celebrity, Examples, Understanding Celebrity No Comments »

It is a well-known fact that when you come up with an idea there are always others who have had, or are currently thinking about, the same idea.  In Think And Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill calls it a result of the “Infinite Intelligence”…you can come to your own conclusion.  I have done little promotion of my 7 Levels of Celebrity concepts- but others are starting to see them.

Rich came to the conclusion that he must be a celebrity…here is a link to his amusing post:

According to The 7 Levels of Celebrity Scale (’Celebrity Scale’ for short) I would say Rich could be considered a lower level “Micro Celebrity”, however, I tend to lean toward “Proto Celebrity” for now.  Your thoughts?
